Murdoch's news-tainment machine is soulless & evil

Fluffy, any chance Harper can be implicated in anything here? That would be sweet.

Other than meeting with Murdoch and Roger Ailes in New York ... not yet - but hopefully some of the Murdoch will stick to him.

Did you mean to post the same video twice, or was the second a cut & paste oopsie?

Double post - don't know precisely how. I think that cecilia must have posted at almost the same time as me so when the forum page reloaded she was the last post so I hit "Post" again.

Check this out...

News International has put some PR guy on one of it's "news" outlets and if you watch this clip you can see the direction which they have decided to spin (I mean "fair and balanced) this story.

Apparently the whole thing is just another "hacking scandal" and then he rattles off a bunch of other "hacking" stories such as when Citibank was hacked into. By putting the News International story next to these other stories and framing it as a hacking scandal just like those they are equating the stories and trying to imply (at least to anyone who isn't already aware of what's going on) that News International are the victims of hacking instead of the hackers.

If you didn't already know quite a bit about this story then this misleading slant, if it was the first thing you had heard on the subject, may even convince you that Fox is a victim of hackers and their backers. Note the guys didn't actually tell a lie - but he deliberately created a false impression.

But, really, what else would you expect from Fox, and what else would you expect from a PR guy. (P.R. is the term that Edward Bernays coined to replace the word propaganda because it had acquired negative connotations.)

43 year old British woman has just been arrested. Identity unconfirmed as yet.

-EDIT-
BBC just confirmed it is Rebekah Brooks.

The fallout from this is spreading pretty fast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14180043
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson has resigned following the phone hacking scandal.
Britain's most senior police officer has faced criticism for hiring former News of the World executive Neil Wallis - who was questioned by police investigating hacking - as an adviser.

Anybody would think it wasn't a shrewd move

I came here to post this

and yes, I am doing The Happy Dance
It said in a statement that she "was arrested by appointment at a London police station by officers" and was in custody.

Brooks, 43, is the 10th person and most senior Murdoch aide to be arrested so far over the scandal, which exploded earlier this month amid claims that under her watch the News of the World hacked the phone of a murdered girl.
Opposition Labour leader Ed Miliband called for his British media interests to be dismantled.

"I think he has too much power over British public life," Miliband told the Observer newspaper, citing his ownership of the The Sun, Times and The Sunday Times newspapers as well as a 39 percent share in pay-TV giant BSkyB.

This gift just keeps on giving.

He (Murdoch) must have crossed the path of someone very powerful.
It may just come down to an angry public. he may have felt he had a lock on public opinion - that he could direct it as he wished (which seems to have been the impression that the politicians who pandered to him so sycophantically must have thought). This may be a case where genuine public outrage has emboldened authorities to do what they wished they had done long ago but feared Murdoch's power to publicly pillory them in his news outlets.

that faith in his almost magical abilities to move the public seems to have suddenly evaporated and now everyone who had an axe to grind has come out looking for their pound of flesh and the politicians are simply noticing which way the wind is blowing.

It could be a more complicated long plotted conspiracy against Murdoch but it looks more like a few media outlets (and particularly the Guardian) just kept doggedly kicking away at a story until they struck the gold (as it were) that sparked a mass outrage. In a way it does speak to the power that Murdoch had that he was able to fend off the criticism for so many years. This was the critical mass moment, the straw that broke the camels back and his influence system collapsed. Now that it is discredited it will keep collapsing for a while. If it stops collapsing it will leave News International much diminished in power. If it doesn't stop collapsing. that will be fine with me.
