AUSTRALIAN pension funds managing as much as $350 billion in assets are expected to join the chorus of US and British funds seeking to remove Rupert Murdoch as News Corp chairman and his sons James and Lachlan from the board in the wake of the phone hacking scandal.

The Australian Council of Super Investors, a peak body for super funds, yesterday called for a ''genuinely independent chair'' and for the News Corp board to replace family members, affiliated and executive directors with credible, skilled outside directors.
