Suddenly vaccine skepticism has gone mainstream.

Instagram bans top anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over COVID falsehoods

"For instance, at the end of 2019, the government of Samoa was forced to shut down to deal with an explosive measles outbreak. The deadly surge of disease came after Kennedy’s organization spent months fear-mongering over vaccine safety and spreading falsehoods about an incident that led to the tragic deaths of two Samoan infants. An investigation determined that the babies were given lethal doses of muscle relaxant by negligent nurses who intended to immunize them. The nurses were each convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. Of course, none of that information was shared by Kennedy’s organizations."

I've always hated the vaccines are "100% safe and effective" statements -
no scientist, doctor, or reasonable person ever says vaccines are 100% safe.
only idiot anti-vaxxers make misstatements like that.

And public health officials and advocates. Scientists know, but the policy wonks think the ambiguity will confuse the little people so they hire PR companies to "enhance the messaging" et voila! People don't believe it. When you dumb stuff down you get dumb outcomes.

I’m not in a hurry to get the vaccine myself. It’s development was very rushed. I’m not against it per say. I would like to see more data collected on its long term effects.

after many attempts (online at various sites), I finally got an appointment this Wednesday for a vaccine.

I can not WAIT to get it. I'm fairly stoked about it. And, no, I have no idea which one - I'll find out when I get there.
YIPPIE!

I hope it goes well. The few people I know who got it so far tolerated it well (all non-mRNA AFAIK), just some mild to moderate illness for 24 hours (first shot).

I was given the Pfizer vaccine. I return for my 2nd shot at the end of the month.

I feel not just fine but really fine. my arm at the injection site feels slightly sore when I touch it. But it's really nothing. I barely think about it as I go about doing things.

I feel proud to be part of something historic.

LEBRON JAMES NOT ENCOURAGING YOUNG AND BLACK AMERICANS TO GET VACCINATED IS DISAPPOINTING

On its face, I would never condemn athletes for avoiding a vaccine conversation. They have no obligation to participate in it. However, given LeBron’s history of injecting himself into nearly every political and social topic, sitting out one of this magnitude is puzzling and disappointing.

Few matters have been as important for the country, as a whole, as getting the vaccine is. Increasing the number of Americans who receive the vaccine (any of three available in the US) is the only path to reaching herd immunity and normalcy quickly. LeBron classified getting Donald Trump out of office as a matter of life and death — but the vaccines, in many cases, are literally a matter of life and death.

Smith cited the lack of black vaccinated citizens as the reason for his call to LeBron:

“If you look at the hospitals, and you look at people with pre-existing conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes, and things of that nature, clearly when you look at that you see that the African American community is disproportionately affected, and something needs to be done,” he went on. “And when we look at the 50-plus million people who have been vaccinated, most happen to be white.

For context, there is a reported hesitancy in black Americans to get the vaccine. ABC News reports, as a result, estimates found 5.4% of those vaccinated are black.

If you want an anecdote, my wife received her 2nd Pfizer C19 vaccine shot last week. First shot left her arm a bit sore for the next day. 2nd one left her overall a bit sore, and with a slight fever (~100.2 F) for the next day. No other side effects. By way of comparison, COVID 19, itself, left my aunt dead.

Late reply here. I don't like giving personal medical of people on the webs, but you can probably figure it out. A woman very close to me stopped having her period after just the first shot. Now months later, still nada, gone. Sterilized. Tons of side effects and sickness, especially after the 2nd dose. She now deeply regrets getting it.

(Edit - Forgot to mention a coworker's friend died immediately following the 2nd shot. He got violently ill after the first, doc still administered the 2nd and he quickly passed on. Every single coof inoculated person I know got ill from the vaccine, to varying degrees).

Me? I am seeing a specialist who actually did recommend I *not* get it at this time. My job made it mandatory, but doctor's note got me off the hook. Initially my General Practitioner refused to write such a note, despite acknowledging my situation. She got visibly nervous when I asked. She quickly went to another room, not knowing I could hear her still. I heard her asking on the phone "are we still recommending everyone get the vaccine regardless?" Finding a new GP soon.

Ironic that I have coworkers jealous of me having (potential) major medical issues, because I could get off the mandatory coerced inoculation. 4th Amendment is dead. Personal freedoms are dead. Medical privacy laws are dead. Hippocratic Oath is largely dead. Fair elections are dead.

Just curious, what is that situation, and which vaccine(s) are they recommending you avoid?

Pretty much everyone in my group of family and friends around this area have gotten the Pfizer vaccine, now. The only exception is my son, as he's still 11, and they are not yet recommending below 12. No one has had any side effects to speak of. They do recommend that you go in for the shot well rested, though. Life had other ideas for me, and I got my 2nd shot on about 2 hours sleep in the previous 48 hours, due to family and work stuff. Even at that, I never felt _bad_. In fact, immediately after the shot I felt fine and did a couple hours of yard work. But then I sat down for a cool drink (non-alcoholic) and a break... And then my body convinced me I shouldn't do much of anything else except rest for the rest of that day and all the next.

I've had one Pfizer jab and the better half has had two AZ jabs. No negative* side effects for either of us (*I had a slight aff-ma-tits feeling for about 20 minutes, which was rather pleasant. ;) ). I get my 2nd jab later this week so will see if it's any different. I do know a few folk who had to take a day off work after the AZ vaccine but nothing major.
By far the worst health effects of any people I know have been those who caught the virus.

Let me be very clear that NO ONE has ever suggested that EVERYONE needs to be vaccinated.
If anyone has questions and they are lucky enough to have a doctor they need to go there and ask those questions.

A friend of mine has an "iffy" immune system and will ask her doctor whether she should or shouldn't get a vaccine or maybe which one or when.

It's not up to me to dictate to anyone on matters of health.

That said, everyone, like myself, with a robust and healthy immune system SHOULD get vaccinated. As a matter of public health and ethics, it's a strongly worded suggestion. Not a demand.
And the reason it's not a demand is because no one knows the details of another person's health.

A woman very close to me stopped having her period after just the first shot
see, this kind of gossip is just crazy talk. This is just the kind of lunatic antivaxxer Bologna that has no evidence.

Here's what happened after I got my shots: I drove home, watched some TV, drank lots of water rested. Ate a good healthy dinner then went to sleep.

But if I had been hit by a car as I walked out of the hospital would THAT have been the fault of the vaccine?

I think not.

Aside from a low-grade fever (99.9 F / 37.7C) after the second shot, I felt fine. I made sure to drink lots of water before and after the shots and be as rested as possible. My temperature kept going down through that day and was normal the next day. Felt just fine.

And, believe it or not, THAT is what most people feel after a vaccine. Reactions to vaccines are rare.

At this point, my entire family in the US is vaccinated and my family in Europe has started their first shots. My friend's family is all vaccinated. So, she is surrounded by people who are protecting her. And THAT is the main reason I got vaccinated. To protect people from getting this horrible illness and not kill anyone by infecting them.

The person I am talking about is not a friend of a friend of someone seen at McDonalds. This woman is someone I see every day, sometimes all day. I'm sure you can figure it out without me saying it for Google to catalog. She got the vax on the advice of her doctor, and now she's not happy. Not that she ever planned on having kids again at her age, but that age is no one where it should have just stopped cold like that.

Her words not mine (paraphrasing) "My doctor was sure writing down what I was saying, but told me repeatedly it was preposterous there could be any connection. As soon as I got out to my car I googled it, and found thousands of women online complaining of the exact same thing".

Myself, I do not mock people who get this vaccine(s). I believe such a decision should between a person and their doctor, with hopefully that doctor abiding by the Hippocratic Oath. What I am fully against is the ability of government or private corporations to force medical treatment upon someone against their will, especially one that is by definition sill in alpha trail phase (no FDA approval).

In my case right now? All, at least until my workups are all done, which at this point gets me into September.

As for what? I don't put medical online any longer. They've ruled out the absolute worst for now, but require further testing. Sorry to not just state it straight up, but posting behind a username on a forum is not anonymity these days, especially not a username I have used for nearly quarter century. If you were in front of me (with no Alexa devices around) I'd tell you

that just will never happen.

There are private companies that might want their employees to get vaccinated. But I'm sure they will make accommodations for people who, under a doctor's advice can't get vaccinated. Such persons may get regularly tested or placed where they aren't interfacing with the public (for example). Private companies are always making rules for their employees so this should be no surprise.

It makes sense. If you have a restaurant (for example) you want to be able to reassure your customers that the people working there don't have The Cooties.

But no one is going to hold you down and inject you. Every vaccine I've Ever gotten has been voluntary. When I was a baby/child it was my mother doing the volunteering, but I'm grateful because I never got smallpox, polio, pertussis, etc. Mom sure loved me!

on the subject of one's menses, there's been no extensive studies so we have no real data

and just an FYI, not menstruating for a certain length of time doesn't mean you are "sterile". Female biology is just a bit more complicated than that. In any case, there's not enough DATA to know if this means anything significant.
People yentering to each other isn't science. When you vaccinate millions of people lots of things happen around those people that are unrelated to the vaccine. People should discuss symptoms with their doctor and try not to stress. Stress taxes your immune system.

There may or may not be something there but right now we just don't know. Not enough info. need more studies.
