And that is precisely what some of the fuss seems to be about. A doctor agreed to prescribe it but the husband wanted a higher dosage.

If the medical staff are of the opinion that there is no potential benefit from this other than placating the husband, they're absolutely right to tell him no.
Prescribing potentially harmful drugs simply as a placebo is irresponsible to the point of idiocy. Especially if that placebo isn't even for the patient's benefit.

Almost completely harmless != harmless - just like the vaccines, really. Same is true for anything medical. You take a risk even injecting saline. However, Ivermectin is very hard to overdose on. Like I said, even the Merck datasheet shows that a hundred times the recommended dose is unlikely to kill you. A full tube of horse ivermectin paste would give a person max 20x the recommended dose which is well below the level needed to cause issues. (the dosing level for humans and horses is the same and the instructions on the tube tell you how to adjust the amount administered for the weight).

Ivermectin has been demonised, well beyond reason and it makes no logical sense why. It's incredibly safe, it's cheap as dirt, people are routinely asked by advertisers to "ask their doctor about" drugs that are far more toxic and that seem to stop doing what they say on the label after the patent runs out.

Except it isn't just like the vaccines. There's a pretty important difference. Probably the most important difference when considering whether the potential harm from any given medication is worth taking a risk on.
 
reasonable people aren't "demonising" Ivermectin.
It just makes very little sense to jump to a medication that has been proven to not be useful against preventing covid when there's several very effective vaccines which can prevent sickness and DEATH.

Scientists mystified, wary, as Africa avoids COVID disaster​

But there is something “mysterious” going on in Africa that is puzzling scientists, said Wafaa El-Sadr, chair of global health at Columbia University. “Africa doesn’t have the vaccines and the resources to fight COVID-19 that they have in Europe and the U.S., but somehow they seem to be doing better,” she said.

Fewer than 6% of people in Africa are vaccinated. For months, the WHO has described Africa as “one of the least affected regions in the world” in its weekly pandemic reports.

Some researchers say the continent’s younger population — the average age is 20 versus about 43 in Western Europe — in addition to their lower rates of urbanization and tendency to spend time outdoors, may have spared it the more lethal effects of the virus so far. Several studies are probing whether there might be other explanations, including genetic reasons or past infection with parasitic diseases.

On Friday, researchers working in Uganda said they found COVID-19 patients with high rates of exposure to malaria were less likely to suffer severe disease or death than people with little history of the disease.

“We went into this project thinking we would see a higher rate of negative outcomes in people with a history of malaria infections because that’s what was seen in patients co-infected with malaria and Ebola,” said Jane Achan, a senior research advisor at the Malaria Consortium and a co-author of the study. “We were actually quite surprised to see the opposite — that malaria may have a protective effect.”

Achan said this may suggest that past infection with malaria could “blunt” the tendency of people’s immune systems to go into overdrive when they are infected with COVID-19. The research was presented Friday at a meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Christian Happi, director of the African Center of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases at Redeemer’s University in Nigeria, said authorities are used to curbing outbreaks even without vaccines and credited the extensive networks of community health workers.

“It’s not always about how much money you have or how sophisticated your hospitals are,” he said.
 

Dr. Fauci’s deadly lie of omission​

Of course, the travel ban Dr. Fauci opposed would turn out to be one of the president’s most prescient and courageous decisions, one that would save millions of lives. But the much bigger story began three days later with an email from Kristian Andersen of the Scripps Research Institute warning Dr. Fauci that the Wuhan virus looked genetically engineered.

With that morning message from Mr. Anderson, Dr. Fauci almost certainly knew beyond any shadow of a doubt that the virus likely came from the Wuhan lab, which his agency had funded. Dr. Fauci also must’ve known that the virus may well have been genetically engineered using the gain of function experiments Dr. Fauci and his accomplice, NIH Director Francis Collins, had both lobbied for. (Mr. Collins has already resigned in disgrace.)

At that critical point, Dr. Fauci had a moral, ethical, and patriotic duty to immediately go to President Trump, the White House National Security Council, and the task force itself to disclose these possibilities. Instead of coming clean, Dr. Fauci kept quiet.

At NO time at any briefing with the president or the task force did Dr. Fauci indicate any possible role of his own agency in spawning the pandemic. This lie of omission alone is sufficient to convict Tony Fauci for the crime of treason as it would result in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Indeed, if we had known what Dr. Fauci declined to tell us, we would have adopted a completely different strategy to fight the pandemic, one that included a much more aggressive attitude towards Communist China to pressure it to full disclosure. That different strategy would likely have saved millions of lives worldwide and hundreds of thousands of Americans as we would have gotten to the truth behind the virus and its genetic code much more quickly.

Dr. Fauci not only lied by omission. He backed Mr. Andersen off while orchestrating a coverup through cutouts like Peter Daszak of the Eco-Health Alliance. To wit: Using prestigious publications like the Lancet, Mr. Daszak was behind a letter-writing campaign to promote the false Communist Chinese Party narrative that the virus came from nature, not the Fauci-funded Wuhan lab.

Dr. Fauci MUST be immediately removed from the National Institutes of Health. He must be strapped into a chair on Capitol Hill to confess his crimes and then moved into courts of law – both civil and criminal – and held accountable for the laws he has broken, including lying to Congress. He is a sociopath, narcissist, and criminal that this country has had quite enough of.

After testing more than 3000 blood donors, Uyoga and colleagues estimated in a preprint last month that one in 20 Kenyans aged 15 to 64—or 1.6 million people—has antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, an indication of past infection. The health system in general? It certainly doesn't serve the poor very well, but the vaccines are free. The previous administration signed the agreement with pfizer back in July of last year with the intent that the vaccine would be administered for free to Americans. The government was creating formal plans to get the vaccine out to all Americans at no cost to the individual in September 2020 before any vaccines had approval for release.
The program is now expanded to include any human being that happens to be in the USA regardless of whether they are citizens or not or have the legal right to be in the USA. If you are paying, it's a scam.

this problem isn't about paying for a vaccine. Of course the vaccines available against corona are free.
The issue is how easily available any medical location is to get to. Some poor areas have fewer hospitals, fewer drug stores (which have pharmacists and staff to administer vaccines).
Sure, I live in a relative nice area so there are hospitals and drug stores all over the place here (NY). In fact, I'm getting my booster later today. All I did was go online and make an appointment. I just show up and get it. Easy.

But in poor areas, that's not the case. In some rural areas they try to have programs where medical people travel out to people's homes to vaccinate them. I'm not sure how successful that is, but at least there's an effort.

I'm really talking about the decades of crappy health care that Americans are just used to. They really have no idea how bad they have it.

As of Nov. 14, there were just 40 cases following a third dose, the data shows.

As of Nov. 14, unvaccinated individuals made up 91 per cent of COVID cases in Ontario, with breakthrough infections accounting for 3.8 per cent of cases. Public Health Ontario defines a breakthrough case as “individuals who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and were infected more than two weeks after receiving their second dose,” Wilson said.

The report notes a similar trend was observed for COVID hospitalizations and deaths “with unvaccinated cases accounting for 90.9 per cent of hospitalizations and 90.2 per cent of deaths while breakthrough cases accounted for 2.7 per cent of hospitalizations and 3.3 per cent of deaths.” As of Nov. 14, 178 fully vaccinated individuals had died of a COVID infection.

While the data shows older adults are more at risk of hospitalization from a breakthrough infection — particularly those over the age of 80 — the rate of “hospitalizations was higher among unvaccinated individuals compared to fully vaccinated individuals.”
