Obama didn't sign it, therefore the Patriot act provisions expire. Don't expect that to actually happen though. It does amuse me how the Dems are fighting to keep the PATRIOT act alive and Republicans, who generally love the act are working against extending the provisions.
Yes, politicians. But they are the only Dems and Repubs that count in the end. They are the ones who cast the votes where the laws are made. If everyone's vote counted then there would be no point in having Dems and Repubs to represent you because you would represent yourself. Unfortunately this would still not work. Most people don't have the time or the inclination to look into the legislation and would just vote whichever way a friend or celebrity says they'll vote.
Graves has a long uphill battle. The autopen was used by Thomas Jefferson. US Presidents have nearly 200 years of history using this device. Prescidence is also important legally. Could you imagine the Court finding the autopen illegal and forcing 200 years of legislation to be audited and dropped from our books? Ain't gonna happen.
