They have been protesting the $0.05 (30 peso) fare increase on the Metro since Oct 18th. Since then, escalating protests have left 19 dead.
Median wage in Chile is $550 (400k pesos ). There are no clear leaders to the protests

President Piñera's decided to send the military to breakup the protests , because criminals where using the protests to loot. However the brutality of the crackdown has further enraged the protesters.

No news reports of the protests in the US, here its all "em peach mint"
