    It's one thing to do it as a kid, it's another as an adult sitting and paddling all day long.

    Eh? It's quite fabulous. It's the beer I can't seem to consume the same as back in the day - but they've changed the law on drinking and boating these days. Plus, if you are actually in a hurry a little 5 horse will move you pretty good.
    Though the kayak is more my thing these days. Hopefully, when I retire, I'll have the time to get out on some of those week long kayak trips like my dad does.

    If you say so, the idea of not being able to stand up (after many hours) and casting along the weed lines doesn't seem too great to me, but such is life.

    Don't know about Canadian laws, but down here in FL, BUI (Boating Under the Influence) has been on the books for a mightly long time. Currently it's 0.08%.

    Don't know about Canadian laws, but down here in FL, that means the boat now has to be registered as a vessel on a yearly basis. Now a motor would be a major perk for fishing in a Canoe.

    Taking trips via kayak/canoe would be cool. Just saying doing your fishing from it, especially with no motor would suck after awhile if your main purpose for being out on the water is to fish. If it's for recreational boating, that's something else entirely. As far as retirement, less you are debt free and have a significant amount of commodities (like gold/silver but limited to), I wouldn't be counting on any retirement monies being there for you.

    Funnily enough, people around here don't need boats to fish on the lake. A warm shack seems to be just as useful. I personally can't be bothered to spend my winter days around a tinny fishing hole, but apparently it's a great way to catch lots of fish.

    @Mike:

    Probably the best camping trip I've been on was in Ontario too, up near Algonquin park.
