As much as we all hate bad cops, most officers are indeed good people trying to do the job with honor.
Good Cops thanks for your contribution and work well done. In 2011 one stand out Sheriff was Dave Mahoney of Wisconsin. Gov Walker was ordered by the court to open the buildings. The Sheriff was told by Walker to do no such thing. Sheriff Mahoney pulled his men out of there handing it over to State Police. Certainly the Sheriff should not be following an unlawful order. As for 173 police dead it's sad. But, I do question the wisdom of those, such as Eric Holder, that called this a trend. It's one year of an increase. A trend really depends upon outcomes in future years.
