I think it was open heart surgery. As to the blood thinners I'm not sure but my impression is no. He was also told he only has to be careful about his intake of salt. His basic diet is fine as is.
I'll ask him if he has to take medication

I was able to talk to my brother again. Prior to the operation he took medication for high blood pressure because the leak was raising his pressure. Now that the leak is permanently fixed he never again has to take this medication. (Yeah!).
He is taking some pain medication and blood thinners temporarily to prevent clots. But this is only post operation and once he is healed from the operation he will no longer have to take anything.

He was told to not lift anything over 10 pounds. This is also temporary - he'll be visiting his doc within the month but he's doing fine and I don't expect any problems. In fact the most annoying result of the operation is the stiff neck from inserting whatever they did in his carotid artery. Even that improves every day

My brother was originally scheduled to return to work this monday (March 5th), but has been doing so well that he went today.
And, in case anyone wants to know why he would WANT to go to work, we were brought up by a work-A-holic mom. it's in our genes. :D

    That's good news Cecilia.

But how's that possible if you're an Occupy supporter?!? I'm pretty sure Fox News told me that all Occupy sympathizers are lazy good for nothing communists!

what a conundrum! I always have to force myself to be lazy. And my brother was getting stir-crazy staying home.

yesterday he sent me a photo from the doctor of the Before/After of his operation. A closeup of the heart valve. I can't really tell what is going on but the After has obvious stitching. I'm not posting that here because it's personal. I mean it can't get more personal than INSIDE your body. :D

I'm just fascinated by the idea that we can now get images of such things

anyway, Tomorrow he completes his first week back to work and his birthday. We are going out for pizza and beer

    :pint:
