The anti-climatologist crowd often cries 'who funds this that's why!' as the reason scientists are finding the planet to be warming due in large part to people. Law makers are wanting full details of funding for scientists exposed. IMO, it's a good idea to know where funding is coming from for science as one of the research areas on if it's tainting the results.
Interestingly enough it was a scientist, Dr. Soon, that has received millions in dollars in Fossil Fuel Industry funding that failed to disclose his funding sources after serious errors in his work were found.
