Eastern Europe shivered Tuesday in the coldest conditions seen this winter, with below-freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall leading to deaths, frostbite and widespread travel disruption.

It's funny in Australia at the moment. On one side of the country we have record heat waves and on the other side (my side) we have flood warnings starting today until Friday. The world is going crazy!

The real reason the Mayans stopped making calendars is the Spanish wiped them off the planet.;)

    -7 degrees here this morning.

Not as cold as last year but still too cold for my liking.

The Maya and their descendants still form sizable populations throughout the Yucatan and maintain a distinctive set of traditions and beliefs. Many Mayan dialects continue to be spoken in these areas as the primary language today. It took the Spanish 170 years before the Maya were completely conquered.

The Maya didn't do enough human sacrifices and ritual cannibalism to keep their gods happy. They didn't offer enough children's hearts at the beginning of the Maya calendar year and the gods were displeased.

That's the trouble with gods - they're never f*cking happy, are they?

Buncha greetin-faced bastards, the lot of them!

the "happy gods" of the Aztecs
Chicomecoatl (Aztec mythology) was the goddess of maize and fertility. Every September, she received a sacrifice of a young girl, decapitated. The sacrifice's blood was poured on a statue of Chicmecoatl and then her skin was worn by a priest.
Xochipilli ("flower prince") was the god of love, games, beauty, dance, flowers, maize, and song.
Xochiquetzal (Flower-Feather) is the goddess of Flower and Song and goddess of the arts.

    The Greeks had several:
Euphrosyne (Greek goddess) of Joy and one of the three graces. She is the happy smiling one, bubbling over with laughter.
Komodia (Greek goddess ) of Happiness and Amusement. More like the personification of it.
Koros (Greek goddess ) of Extravagant Joy and Exuberance.

No doubt. I know of one particular one who is supposedly all powerful, but he's unwilling to help the hungry in Africa or print his own money.
