The system works. I wonder how it reflects on their crime figures, over here its estimated that 50% of all crime is drug related, for instance.

Oh cecilia, you hopeless optimist, you.

Portugal has been doing this for ten years. They didn't just now get a good result. The result has been obvious and for a long time. In fact, this has been mentioned before on this site and others have decided to follow suite.

However, you won't hear much about this because the US does not want you to. Here in Vancouver we have a clinic where addicts can come to shoot up drugs they have bought under supervision. The idea is to build rapport with addicts, prevent fatal overdose, mitigate disease spread by needle sharing and to serve as an intake into rehab for people who have decided that it is time to get off the drugs. For the years it has been open there has been constant pressure from the US to shut it down. The US has even pressured the World Health Organization when its findings go against the US's version of the story.

Even with real world positive examples such as Portugal, and historical precedents such as alcohol prohibition, the US remains very heavily invested in keeping drugs illegal. There are many reasons for this and most of them revolve around the power and money that have come from drug prohibition. Police forces, the prison industry, the suppression of black populations, the funding of "freedom fighters", the financial system - all sorts of people and programs have become dependent on the status quo.

 blame my mother. she's even worse. I'm a black-hearted cynic compared to her.

however, I HATE when people lie and make up shit because they are hateful puritans who only want to exploit people and their problems to get rich .
So I will complain about this problem again and again and again and again..........................
