How can anyone nod along with eyes glazed over? Please tell me this was slickly edited like a Michael Moore film and Bill Gates really didn't say this?

What he says in relation to population is that the growth could be reduced 10-15% if "we do a really great job on new vaccines, healthcare and reproductive healthcare". This is based on the undeniable observation that wealthier, healthier populations tend to have fewer children.

The crux of his argument is that there are four factors, the first 2 (population and services) are just going to increase regardless. The energy required to deliver them and the ways in which the energy is produced are the factors that he is talking about reducing in a major way.

I am watching the long video, thanks for the link. I certainly don't hear Bill Gates make the connection you are making yet. He clearly states that population needs to be near zero and the crowd laughs.

Red, I'm sorry, but did you even listen to what he said? He absolutely does not say that the human population needs to be reduced to zero. There's a joke implication from his simplistic observation that one of the factors in the equation has to get pretty close to zero if the entire result is going to be zero. Sure, we could wipe everybody out, but that's not his suggestion.

In fact, he actually claims the population going to increase by a factor of about 1.3. His assertion was that we could bring that increase down by 10-15% through the means mentioned. He concedes that both the population and the services they consume are going to rise by 2050. To bring the overall equation down to zero, you have to bring down the energy consumed by providing those services for those people and secondly the carbon produced in generating that energy. The E and C factors in the equation, not the P and S.

Yes, he said this right before he revealed his new range of WMD. That must have happened when I blinked.

Vaccines preventative is negative in some ways. In most of the modern world we've eradicated the debilitating childhood diseases. It's easy to think if your kid is unlikely to get sick it's ok to skip the vaccine.

Because I touch on a taboo subject that does not exactly follow the PC line, Whyzzat members cannot have an honest discussion. Ever stop to think why they are taboo subjects? I refuse to be sheep.
