"If a court involuntarily commits someone because they are a risk to themselves or others, they would be required to surrender all firearms and not regain the right to purchase or possess a firearm until a court hearing," he said during a speech about a new proposal on guns in Tallahassee.

Either the old saying is true that FBI stands for Fuc*ing Buncha Idiots, or the FBI allowed this shooting to happen for political reasons. It keeps looking more like the latter each day.

the problem is despite everyone at the school knowing he's a nut job, and despite 18 police calls to his residence, there was no paper trail to flag him that would prevent a fire arms purchase

on Nov. 30, an unidentified caller from Massachusetts called to say Cruz was collecting guns and knives. The caller said “Cruz will kill himself one day and believes he could be a school shooter in the making.”
BSO never even wrote a report on the tip.

The Sheriff’s office and the school did exactly what their internal policies and procedures trained them to do, they intentionally ignored the threats, ignored unlawful conduct and intentionally didn’t generate any document trail

the 30 minute security video delay was intentional, the delay gave the Broward County SRO enough time to deal with the situation, erase the recording of any unlawful activity, and ensure students were not arrested for criminal conduct.

You are legally an adult at 18 for pretty much everything except drinking and electronic gaming.

If you are old enough to get drafted off into the army and die for your country, you should be old enough to own a gun, drink and play the slots.

Broward’s Collaborative Agreement on School Discipline was announced in early November 2013. Instead of suspensions, students are referred to the PROMISE program, where they receive counseling

And then magically, there were no more school-based arrests for misbehavior!

Many are calling for Scott Israel's resignation, others are taking hard political stances (on both sides) with facts be damned. Until he proves me wrong based on very strong close second hand knowledge, he's a good cop and a good Sheriff. I certainly don't agree with him on everything, but his heart is in the right place and he is trying.

Sheriff Scott Israel’s Wiki:

He has almost four decades of experience in the police force, having risen through the ranks. He worked as a narcotics detective, was the head of a SWAT team, and has served as police chief in another town.

He was part of the famous squad of police who took down drug trade in Fort Lauderdale in the ‘80s.

Undercover operations and sting operations. He was with Fort Lauderdale Police Department back then. I've heard many a story and even seen footage of some swat raids. I wonder if i still have a VHS tape of some of this here. I should look.

He probably also worked for the task force that cleaned up the infamous 'Fort lauderdale Strip' and made 'Spring Break' mostly move on to other areas. I'll ask next time I talk to my old man. Both of those weren't glamorous like the movies by the 80s. I guess if you like AIDs infested hookers, tainted hard narcotics and violence you'd like it, the rest of us didn't.

Is Sheriff Israel a Democrat?

Israel has been demanding gun control to prevent mass violence, and that has earned him opposition from political factions. But he has some political clout, so he’s an outspoken voice nonetheless.

He lost the 2008 sheriff’s elections to Al Lamberti who had infamous Republican operative Roger Stone working on his campaign. But in 2012, Stone switched loyalties to Israel and helped him in the 2012 election.

Stone helped Israel win the 2012 election, but their partnership is an anomaly. Because Israel switched to Democrat in 2007 and contested on the Democratic ticket. Stone, though a staunch Republican supporter, has high regard for Israel.

They demonstrate mutual respect for each other’s work, but Stone wasn’t needed in Israel’s campaign again. His work in the county had earned him all the support he needed, and he easily won the 2016 reelection.

It's yet to be seen just how hard Israel will really be for gun grabbing, I'll wait for the details. Even though he's registered Democrat, I seriously doubt you will see him taking any wacko far left SJW positions. He's for law enforcement which is very anti-Liberal these days.

I know it doesn't relate to school shootings, but in reference to your comment and many accusations against the guy about being racist - I think there is a small measure of altruism, courage and even decency in this clip: perhaps I misconstrue it and it's actually deeply nefarious, but... well, just give it a watch.

Snopes being Snopes when it comes to politics and taking a side instead of being neutral deliverer of facts.

Determining how much of this account is true nearly three decades later is difficult, especially given Trump’s long history of self-aggrandizing statements

They completely left out the part that Trump has never played this incident up, even when it happened.

It happened, there were numerous witnesses and even a newspaper account at the time. Snopes is leaning on unproven seemingly since no one has invented a time machine.

Well, what did you take from it? Was it just an example of classic racism, maybe a shrewd political stunt? What do you see going on in that clip? How do you feel towards any and all of those people in the clip if you had no idea who any of them were?
