Obama decides to bomb his terrorists

If you didn't like what Bush/Cheney were doing then you were clearly un-American, or anti-American.

And by extension, Helping The Terrorists!

I thoroughly enjoy your insults and your attempts to smear and strawman. Truly, I really can't do anything but take it in the best humour.

The transformation has been something to behold and I still find it a little bizarre. It's like watching someone attempting to out-stereotype a stereotype with gradually increasing desperation.
As far as I can see the increased tendency towards insults has mostly been self-defeating, often pathetic and usually uncalled for but I also have to confess to finding this one quite funny.

ISIS retook tall shair hill today and planted flag on top

Brother Nathanael

this guy is almost as Jew obsessed as Fluffy!
Oddly enough I find you and Mike to be much more Jew obsessed. Half the time I make criticism of politicians or foreign policy or governments you think I'm talking about Jews. It is strange. It's getting to the point that hardly a thread can go by without one or the other of you trying to bring the subject around to "Joos" and how much I talk about them. The "Joos" as a race don't exist (quite arguably races don't exist) and as a religion is a non-homogeneous granfalloon that is just as potty as as Catholicism or Islam. There certainly is no magic that makes every Jew any less prone to human foibles than adherents to any other club. Come on guys, why do you think that Jews are better than any other kind of people?

Syria is geopolitical, not about justice or humanitarianism. Just mentioning this again because I was hearing about bombing pipelines in Syria to thwart ISIS. On it's face this is ridiculous because you only really need to control the terminals to control oil flows in the pipelines so if ISIS is using pipelines to fence oil it should be a solvable problem (that and telling your allies to stop buying the stuff, maybe). But whose pipelines are they really? ISIS's pipelines, or Syrias? And who would really be hurt? More importantly, who would benefit?

If it was all about the oil in 2013 and they had their pretext handed to them on a silver platter, you don't think they would have gone for it? I think they would have, no reason to wait and let the profits slip away.

As for the pipelines, they're easy to rebuild and easier to rebuild than any other part of the oil shipment business. It's the ideal target. It's ridiculous only because you say so.

Yes they did have the pretext handed to them and yes they did make a try at trying to use that pretext. Don't you remember? And you even had a try at getting me to see why that pretext wasn't a pretext at all but a genuine moral reason. And then the new Hitler let all the air out of that balloon, remember.
And remember how, at that time, I talked about how the US government isn't monolithic (as I have mentioned before going way back) and has competing agendas and how the neo-cons are currently not as free to act as they were under Bush when they had direct control over crucial institutions?

Pipelines are easy. Tell us how easy they are? How much do they cost and how long does it take? What resources are required and who controls those resources? Who do these pipelines belong to that we are bombing and who paid for them? Why don't we want them to fall back into Syrian hands?
And as for the "ideal target", it's the ideal target for what purpose? Where do the current pipelines go? Who do they connect? If and when new pipelines are built, what routes do you suppose will be preferred and why?

Quite a good analysis on what Syria is all about.

Interesting read and makes a fair bit of sense, especially this bit from the NYT:
Saudi Arabia and Russia have had numerous discussions over the past several months that have yet to produce a significant breakthrough, according to American and Saudi officials. It is unclear how explicitly Saudi officials have linked oil to the issue of Syria during the talks, but Saudi officials say — and they have told the United States — that they think they have some leverage over Mr. Putin because of their ability to reduce the supply of oil and possibly drive up prices."

Aleppo almost cut-off by Syrian Army cutting supply lines to al-Nusra and friends and maybe forcing a political solution. Suddenly - Turkey to the rescue because ... sovereignty!!!

They've previously been accused of anti-Israeli bias or pro-capitalist bias, according to taste.
I'm not sure there isn't anyone they haven't been accused of being biased against - which is a good thing I guess. They are critical of a lot of regimes we call friends too, however, the material only gets publicity if it supports our agendas - even in cases where they happen to be wrong. Also, being a gatekeeper of sorts I'm sure they are subject to injection of false accusations.
