I am truly revisiting WinUAE for the first time in about 7 years. I have a MorphOS box that gets moderate use, but that is pretty turnkey. I have not truly been an Amiga user since about 2005, when I used both classic systems and WinUAE. A lot of the stuff is like riding a bike, but other stuff is less clear. I rage quit AWN a couple weeks ago, so yo guys get the questions;)

I am trying to set up Warp3d compatibility in WinUAE. What to use? Quarktex or Wazp3d?

What is the best patch for OS3.9 to not use any ChipRAM?

The latter question, Fblit and its companion Ftext for a reduction in chip ram usage. Never really got into warp3d stuff though, sorry.

I am not having any luck with either Quarktex or Wazp3d. As a matter of fact I just nuked my HDF trying last night. Now when trying to start up that configuration WinUAE locks up and I have to kill the task.

I wonder if both are incompatible with Win7? Years ago I used Quarktex with XP, no problem.

Heh... I guess I'm further out of the circle than I thought... I didn't realize there were options for Warp3d emulation. I wonder if anyone will ever get around to emulating one of the Amiga PowerPC processor cards.

PowerPC emulation on x86 is possible. PearPC is one such emulation. I believe Rosetta (PowerPC emulation) was included in OSX until the Lion release.

Now if anyone steps up for the Amiga? There isn't much money there so I doubt it.

IMO the Amiga has no chance for return. I'd rather see WinUAE packaged nicely for Win8 both ARM and x86 along with Linux on ARM and x86. There'd have to be a JIT for 68K for ARM created.

"Commodore Amiga" will be making a return, likely this year, but it won't operate anything like we are used to. I wish AROS and MorphOS would just merge efforts and be done with it. Failing that, MorphOS will probably see an X86 release this decade.

Commodore USA's Amigas appear to be an Amigaesque chassis. Though anything Amiga is emulation. I suspect they'll be i7 running WinUAE. The A3000esque case would make a good HTPC chassis. Though I have something that looks similar enough already. I doubt I'd run out and get the 'Commodore Amiga' stamped version.

If you are using Picasso96 in your WinUAE installation, you shouldn't really be using any Chip RAM. Not that it matters, since in UAE you can have your "sex and free beer" and simply configure your system to have up to 8MB of Chip RAM anyway. It's also not one jot slower than your Fast RAM since it's all the same host memory.

As for 3D, I believe Wazp3D is pretty up to date as far as API compatibility goes. Also, it will do software rendering if for any reason OpenGL isn't available. I don't tend to use UAE for this, however, so I can't really say for sure what is necessary to get it working.

Yup, I an using P96 and OS3.9. I set ChipRAM to 8MB and I still ran out of ChipRAM opening a couple directories with a few hundred files each! I found the "Workbench" setting in prefs to use "other mem". This has stopped most of the ChipRAM usage, but not all. It is good enough to not run out of ChipRAM, so I will probably leave it be.

Somehow I am nuking WinUAE when I try to use either Quaktex or Wazp3d. I mean really nuked the task! Ah well, gotta make backups of backups and keep tinkering:)

There's always something using it. On my 3.9/CGX install on the BVision, the ChipRAM usage is literally a few tens of KiB though and isn't dependent on the number of icons floating around.
