... I have been gone for quite a while. I thought I better reintroduce myself, if only to get my post count up a bit ;)

I see the layout has changed a tad since I was last here. Are all the amiga.org old guard still here?

Not so bad today, thanks. Since Mum passed away in March, I've been taking each day as it comes. I spent a long easter weekend back home with my brother, who, in an unprecedented turn of technophilia, decided to buy a notebook and get an internet connection.

We found out shortly before then that my Aunt (mum's elder sister) has breast cancer. There's never a good time for such news but the timing was particularly cruel. She actually got the recall notice the day before the funeral :/ She didn't tell any of us until it was confirmed.

The good news is that it was detected at a very early stage, so much so, that it was only detectable via the scan. She had a lumpectomy on Thursday and will find out in the next two weeks what further treatment is needed, though the doctors have said that radiotherapy is almost certainly needed.

I don't want to jump the gun on this one, but informally, the prognosis looks good.

Good to see you again Karlos. :pint:

There is still a core of us Amiga.org users here, arguing like crazy as always

Sorry to hear about your mother and aunt... There is far to much of that sort of thing going on

Hey Karlos, good to hear from you in a happy/sad kind of way. I've been wondering what's been happening with you and your mum but I guess we haven't been hanging out in the same places and I have a terrible sense of time - I forget how it passes.

I'm sad to hear that you mum has succumbed and it's probably in vain to say I hope it wasn't too rough on her and you, but at least it is over. Fingers crossed for your aunt though. That must be very scary for her - I wish her all the best.

Yeah, and you too, Karlos, all the best to you as well, mate.

(why do I have a killer hankering for a curry all of a sudden?)

Good to see you again! :D

I still lurk about once a week. Never really have anything to say though.

Sorry to hear about your mum. Hope your family and friends are keeping everyone sane at times like these.

Glad your aunt caught the cancer early. Cancer is one of the worst things you could get. My grandad died of stomach cancer in March (2 weeks before his 83rd birthday) after almost a year of knowing there wasn't anything to help him.

On a different note - I still haven't recreated a "flying rom routine" since I last had yours

omg - that was 6/7 years ago? Where does the time go?!

To be fair, I wasn't frequenting any forums that much during the time.

You may recall that my mum had developed a post operative hernia after her initial operation. In the meantime we found out the chemotherapy wasn't working. The doctors didn't want to operate on the hernia for fear of complicating the cancer further, but by February this year it became critical. The operation was technically a success but she didn't fully recover. The cancer had already metastasised. It took a month before she was well enough to be transferred to a hospice where her cancer care could resume. She seemed to be improving, but after a few days she made a dramatic turn for the worse. She passed away just after midnight a week after she'd been transferred. I was with her at the time and at least it was relatively peaceful.

My Aunt had her lumpectomy on the 23rd of last month and is doing fine at the moment. We won't know for a while yet what additional treatment will be necessary, but from the original consultation it seems radiotherapy is a given.

@Vincent

Blimey, was it that long ago? I still have that board somewhere. I think the ROM is still attached :)

An update on that last bit of news.

My Aunt was officially given the all clear after completing the radiotherapy course. The doctors are confident they caught all of the malignant cells in the original procedure.
